WIDOW is a non-profit organization under The Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 with necessary permission from the government/concerned authority or competent authority of Bangladesh and the objects contrary to the provision of section 20 of the Act, and is funded solely by donations from individuals and corporations. These contributions are not only monetary but also in the form of in-kind contributions such as medical equipment, computer equipment and software, facilities, vehicles, mobile clinics and volunteers in the medical, pharmaceutical, biological, environmental and educational fields.
The Foundation was created to address the shortage of care currently available to women in the prenatal and postnatal conditions, infants and children that live in the economically depressed rural regions of Bangladesh by providing health and medical information, educational training and services.
The foundation works to develop and institute programs that also focus on improving the economy in these regions and the equality of women and more specifically the economic development of ethnic minority women and those living in remote and poor areas; and that assist women in rural areas as they attempt to better their economic, health and welfare conditions so that a platform of economic stability can be established that will be able to improve and sustain the medical and health needs of those communities.
The foundation not only facilitates the introduction of medical science and technology to these regions and works to procure the necessary medicine, equipment and facilities required to support their regional program; but also, provides educational assistance that encourages and develops good practices of preventive medicine and early identification of health problems and maladies suffered by women and children in these areas.
The Foundation also supports initiatives that protect the legal rights and interests of women and facilitating their livelihood and personal growth through promoting employment and enhancing their physical and mental health while promoting and implementing programs that provide for the people’s basic needs, general health and welfare.
It's called self-development because local people define their own needs and build organizations for social change — while WIDOW provides training, tools, financial resources, and networking opportunities to support their vision.

Our vision
It's called self-development because local people define their own needs and build organizations for social change — while WIDOW provides training, tools, financial resources, and networking opportunities to support their vision.
Widow Foundation started as a small group with a big idea, and the idea was this: To be fully human, we must translate our compassion and concern into useful service this simple statement conveys something about the nature of compassion that is expressed in most spiritual traditions around the world — that compassion is not just about helping those less fortunate than ourselves, it's about the realization that we are all connected as one human family.
That sense of compassionate service motivates all of Widow’s work, as we build programs that support people around the world in their efforts to build healthy communities. Widow’s programs, spanning many cultures and countries, share certain fundamental principles:
Girls and women in rural areas of Bangladesh are burdened by a combination of factors that limit their opportunities and make it extremely challenging for them to develop the skills they need.
Widow supports innovative community-based programs that offer training, mentoring and advocacy services designed to empower women and enable them to participate fully in all levels of societal decision-making
Education is the key to enabling marginalized people to achieve meaningful participation in society. To that end, the Program works with local partners to create opportunities for people in poor, rural areas to access culturally appropriate educational resources
Widow Program is empowering local people to address these basic needs by helping to provide the training, technical support and resources they need to build locally managed community health services and water systems
